The Management of this center attended the presentation in Santiago of the program AQUAE-STEM, presented by Da Carmen Pomar, Conselleira de Educación, program in which the center will begin participating this year with 2nd, 3rd and 4th of Ed. Primary during three school years.
Only fifteen centers will participate at the level of Galicia, three of them in Ourense, so for our College it is a great privilege to have been admitted in this initiative.
This program focuses on promoting, in students mainly, the interest in STEM careers (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).
Data from Eurostat in Spain show that only 13 out of 1000 people complete studies in STEM subjects, which contrasts with the growth of demand for professionals for these fields. When we talk about women the numbers are more eloquent: only 26 of these people are women.
AQUAE-STEM is therefore made up of a series of practical activities aimed at awakening the students, especially girls, in these subjects, through the resolution of challenges to be solved by design, computer programming, prototyping… using innovation and creativity as vehicles to inspire them.
Our 3rd, 4th EP students continue to participate for the second year in this initiative to promote “STEM” specialties among students. (scientific, technical, naive and mathematical)
